A Régence ormolu-mounted rosewood commode early 18th century, circa 1720.

A Regence chest of drawers in Rio clear rosewood veneer inlaid with leaves and fillets on a fir frame and oak . The generous curved front opens with four drawers in three rows separated by large dark horizontal brass channels. The rounded uprights are adorned with triple vertical grooves also dark in brass to match the channels. The base is straight from the front and with symmetrical recess on each of the sides. A very beautiful finely chiseled bronze ornamentation, having preserved their perfect gilding of time, such as falling feet, entry of locks falling wrists adorns box and drawers. The falling feet rest on leafy, hatched and openwork coils, centered with a finial and topped by an elegant five-pointed shell punctuated with pearls. The keyholes are theirs in the form of a voluble cartridge wrapped in double leafed compartments, topped with flat pearl shells and centered on the keyhole. The pulling cuffs are drooping with valet decor finely embellished with gadroons, pearls and foliage complete the decor. The whole is topped with a marble leaf marrying the frame in royal Flanders red where runs around the periphery of a corbin's beak enhanced with a large groove recalling; channels and splines. We find in this elegant early period chest of drawers all the beautiful classic ornaments so dear to the Louis-fourteenth decorative arts where symmetry and balance are always cardinal virtues but enhanced by this charm so spicy specific to the Regence period under the influence of Duke Philippe d'Orléans. Balance, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this elegant chest of drawers from the first decades of the Enlightenment. It should be noted that great care has been taken with connecting elements of impeccable quality. This piece of furniture was the subject of a perfect restoration in the rules of the art in force at the beginning of the 18th century, such as stabilization of raised veneer, cleaning and finishing with pad varnish.
Dimensions: marble, length 130.5cm, depth 64.5cm and total height 93cm.
