Exceptional and Rare Régence Commode with crowned “R” bronzes, circa 1740, from the first part of the 18th century.
It is veneered with violetwood, with marquetry decoration known as “à la Reine”, composed of trellis patterns enclosing small flowers within tinted and crosshatched latticework.
Its top is also in marquetry, decorated with a large central medallion, surrounded by a gilt bronze astragal molding.
It opens at the front with three large drawers, with its three locks and its original key.
Very rich bronze ornamentation, with figural decoration on the corner mounts; the handles are “Chinese style”, and the escutcheons are decorated with figures surmounted by a crown.
Some of the bronzes bear the famous crowned “R” hallmark, which authenticates the period under Louis XIV.
Our commode has a softwood and oak carcass.
It is in very good condition.
It measures 128 cm in length, 67 cm in depth and 86 cm in height.
