Neoclassical console table Louis XVI period late 18th century circa 1800

Elegant console table with four legs rectangular quadrilateral shape in linden wood molded, carved, openwork and gilt with marble entablature. The worked slatted belt is carved on all three sides. Its equally elegant and homogenous decor consists of large and opulent rays of lakes lying on the finely gorged gorges from which emerge fine flowers of sunflower freshly hatched; in parallel, two lines of pearls complete the whole. The main beam is embellished in its middle part of a protruding projection forming a cul-de-lamp; it is decorated with country attributes. Attributes so dear to Marie-Antoinette and sanitized sheepfolds from the hamlet of Queen to small Trianon; such as shovel, rake or fake not to mention braided picking basket and milk can. Attributes, all united by a voluble ribbon, lacing them to an olive branch with dense and chiselled foliage. The belt rests on a base with four legs joined by an X spacer. Each of the frustoconical feet is tapered with rudent grooves raised asparagus tips. The summon of each of them is carved with an Ionic capital with circular windings decorated with ovals circled with streaks of plucked pearls and descended from leaves of water and acanthus. Their ovoid baluster base is similarly raised by water leaves and acanthus. Connections ; base and crossbars legs are provided by connecting dice of different dimensions depending on the fuselage of the foot, the thickness of the sleepers as well as those of the sleepers. Cubic form set with streaks of pearls, centered a decor in adequacy to the sleepers; they are housed at the connection points between the ringed base of the toe where is supported the curved X-shaped spacer and the angular portions of the belt. The cross bars X, concave and convex are contiguous in their center. A fine decoration of pearl friezes and wavelets of recumbent lakes runs in their lateral part. The union of the two is marked by the junction of a covered vase with russeted grooves and asparagus and angular handles called "Greek". The whole is capped with a marble leaf in pale gray Pyrenean breccia veined with white and bronze. It should be noted the great care given to the connecting elements of an irreproachable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this console very representative of the so-called neoclassical period. It contains all the beautiful and refined ornaments of this period strongly influenced by the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii that influenced the decorative arts of the reign of Louis XVI. Provençal work circa 1800. Observations: Excellent condition, use and maintenance restorations such as; repeated and cleaning of gilding, made according to the rules of decorative arts of the eighteenth century
