Offered by Brozzetti Antichità
This console, accompanied by a mirror, was made in Genoa, Italy, in the neoclassical era, towards the end of the eighteenth century.
The console table has a marble top slabbed in Broccatello di Spagna that follows the profile of the structure, with front corners cut at 45 degrees. The under-top band consists of a lacquered part in faux Verde Antico marble, a double frame carved with ovules and patterns with golden teeth. Below, on a base lacquered in faux Porphyry stand out decorations carved in relief and gilded with patterns of ramage and leaves. On the corners the carvings have phytomorphic elements inserted in frames.
From the corners originate the four legs that look like columns of the Doric order. From the characteristic capital, with volutes and carvings with golden ovules, there are tapered and grooved columns, lacquered in faux Porphyry and golden and with an inverted cone trunk. In the second two thirds of the column, a delicate sculpted and golden decoration appears as leafy branches that cover the stem. The feet are spherical and in lacquered wood. From the capitals spread festoons and garlands in gilded wood and carved in the shape of fruits that contribute to enrich the refined decoration of the console, creating a slight movement.
The mirror resumes the decoration of the console. Of quadrangular shape, it consists of a base in lacquered wood in faux Verde Antico marble on which rests a carved and gilded frame. The other sides of the mirror have, inside gold reserves, on a background lacquered faux Porphyry, the same adorned the underfloor band of the console: from classic-style vases lacquered to faux lapis lazuli with lacquered bases Verde Antico, originate vine leaf ramage with golden leaves that run around the perimeter. On the sides move the composition two decorations in gilded wood carved with a volute centered by a flower that develops upwards into a large leaf. The vertical sides of the frame end with elegant gilded capitals with scrolls and leaf elements and garlands. The frame ends upwards with a sculpted band with reserves of tooth motifs and golden eggs and lacquered band in faux Verde Antico marble.
The console and the mirror present a very elegant and refined overall design. Of great decorative and scenic effect, they are very bright and graceful, easily placed in any furnishing context, ancient or modern, in which they will bring the timeless charm of gold and neoclassical taste.
There is a small fracture in the upper left corner of the mirror.
You can also buy individually both the mirror and the console.
