Small gilt oak console table, Paris, Louis XVI period
Small half-moon shaped console table in gilt oak.
It rests on four tapered legs decorated with acanthus swags surmounted by capitals with egg-and-dart friezes and asparagus-shaped fluting.
The legs are connected by floral blocks to an X-shaped stretcher.
This stretcher is decorated with interlaced friezes and, at its junction, with a cluster of acanthus leaves with seeds.
The upper rails feature three registers of carving: friezes of heart-shaped motifs, pearls, and laurel leaf garlands.
They are joined to the legs by blocks with sunflower rosettes.
Gilt oak; original gilding with minor retouching.
Original red marble top.
A Parisian piece from the Louis XVI period, circa 1775-1780, similar to the work of the cabinetmaker Georges Jacob.
