This elegant bench was crafted in Piedmont towards the end of the 18th century, during the Neoclassical period.
The rectangular seat is upholstered in bottle green velvet, which is in good condition. The wooden structure is carved and lacquered in tones of cream and blue-grey.
The apron is carved on three sides, making the bench suitable for placement against a wall or a piece of furniture. It features a cream lacquered border, with a recessed central band in blue-grey. At the center and near the corners, it is adorned with square elements centered by circular relief details, all lacquered in cream.
The six legs emerge from a circular capital and a concave element in blue-grey lacquer. The shaft, shaped as an inverted truncated cone, is lacquered in blue-grey and decorated with carved acanthus leaves in cream lacquer, with additional fluting at the lower section, also in cream.
This bench stands out for its refined design and the harmonious contrast between lacquer tones and carved details. While ideally suited to be placed against a wall, at the foot of a bed, or behind a sofa — in an entryway, corridor, or living room — it can also be used as a freestanding piece, as the fourth side is fully lacquered.
Pleasi note that one leg is slightly curved.
