A Louis XVI period salon suite in carved and gilded molded beechwood, comprising a sofa and four armchairs.
The sofa has six fluted and reeded legs and solid armrests with upholstered cuffs. The armrests are similar in design to those of the armchairs. They are straight, end in a scroll, and join the connecting blocks with a cantilevered, fluted, cyma-shaped curve, also ending in a scroll. The connecting blocks of the sofa and the suite of four armchairs, with their flat medallion backs, are decorated with stylized rosettes. The seat rails and sides are curved.
The suite is beautifully upholstered in Lyonnais fabrics in harmonious colors and a pattern of garlands, medallions, and floral baskets surmounted by large bows, in soft shades of gold, pink, blue, and red. The original gilding is of very fine quality.
This Louis XVI period work is attributed to Jean Baptiste Sené, who became a master in 1769.
