Important pair of Louis XVI gilt-bronze wall lights featuring fine ram's he

A magnificent, large pair of three-light gilt-bronze wall sconces, featuring a finely and elegantly crafted small ram's head.

The broad, imposing central shaft is topped by an antique-style urn with rectangular handles, beautifully adorned with a delicately placed laurel garland, and terminates at the bottom in a lovely rose surrounded by foliage and flowers, accented by a small inverted pinecone; these are characteristic elements of Louis XVI period craftsmanship.

The workmanship is exquisite; the small, refined ram's head is rendered with great naturalism, precisely capturing the animal's coat and giving the impression that it is almost looking at the viewer.
Framing this head, above and on either side, are the light arms, featuring curves and counter-curves and finely sculpted with acanthus leaves. They terminate at the bottom in slender spikes and at the top in square bases surmounted by drip pans and candle cups. The right and left arms feature candle cups and drip pans that match each other but differ from those of the central arm. All are chased on their undersides and sides with geometric patterns, acanthus leaves, or foliage, details that mark them as high-quality sconces.

The interplay of techniques, combining smooth and chased bronze surfaces, creates contrasting reflections and highlights the bronzesmith's skill.
This pair is distinguished by its large, imposing size and the exceptional refinement of its chasing.

Louis XVI period work, retaining its original gilding and featuring superb finishing.
