This is the head of a large statue, likely life-size. Carved from sandstone, the statue held a vessel on its head with its raised arms. The statue itself has disappeared, leaving only the head, hands, and part of the vessel. On the sides of the vessel, the characters of an unknown alphabet are carved in relief. A specialist will likely be able to identify them, as they are still quite legible. The statue was probably housed in a temple, and it is probable that the vessel contained a flammable liquid. The sculpture is crude yet powerful and very expressive, with thick lips and wide eyes. An important detail for identification is that the two elements at the level of the earlobes are not earrings, but the two ends of a diadem that partially encircles the skull and ends by looping around the ears. We do not believe these are hair. The diadem features a central disc, likely representing the sun. It is an exceptional object that promises to reveal some fascinating surprises. According to family tradition, it is a medieval Indian sculpture. Height: approximately 40 cm.
