Shunzhi (1644 - 1661),period Porcelain vase

China, Qing Dynasty, Shunzhi period (1644 -1661).
Porcelain jar with polychrome wucai decoration, adorned with large red iron peonies and green leafy rinceaux. The belly is structured by polylobed reserves standing out on a geometric background painted with great iron red finesse. The shoulder takes up a freer floral decoration, while a geometric frieze underlines the collar.

The Chinese term wucai, literally "five colors", refers to a family of polychrome decorations and does not assume the actual presence of five colors on each room. The red palette of iron, green and yellow belongs fully to this tradition. Under Shunzhi, the compositions combining panels in reserve and geometric bottoms tightened with iron red are a particularly characteristic vocabulary; comparable examples are documented by the large collections of Chinese porcelain of the 17th century.

The slightly bluish glaze continues inside. The ring heel is left without enamel and the lip has a brown-faun tone. The absence of a mark is consistent with many porcelains of this production.

Condition: good condition, without structural defect. Slight wear of red enamels, normal for the time.
