REQUEST INFORMATION
The port of Rouen, with its many bridges and the lively bustle of its quays teeming with small figures, was one of the great subjects for painters. Several artists set up their easels on the upper floors of the Hôtel de Paris in order to capture the port activity at the height of its excitement. Among them, Camille Pissarro (1896), Pierre Dumont and Albert Marquet (1912) produced series of several paintings based on this same motif. By capturing the atmosphere of the port, each with their own vision, they reinterpreted—with a concern for creative innovation—the bustle of the quays, the reflections of the sky on the Seine, and the smoke of the new industrial air.
