Roman Lion Head Attachment in Bronze, 2nd-3rd Century AD

These lion head attachments in bronze were produced in a set of four pieces to be fixed on wooden sarcophagi.

Many parallels can be found in the book by Thomas Weber (Syrisch-römische Sarkophagbeschläge, Mainz/Rh. 1989).

The four lion heads were mounted on the wooden coffin. This bronze element dates from the 2nd-3rd century AD.
