Pair of candelabra, signed ‘’Escalier de Cristal Paris"

An impressive pair of 19th-century French three-armed candelabra, with gilded bronze fittings.
The marble vases are topped with a lid featuring a leaf motif and feature leaf- and scroll-shaped arms extending downwards from the neck, crowned by leaf-shaped candle holders.
The base features rocaille decoration with a curled rim and openwork details from which four curled feet emerge.
The lids, which can also be used as pot pourri, each bear a signature on the inside: ‘Escalier de Cristal Paris’.

L’Escalier de Christal was a famous shop in Paris, which remained in business from the Empire period until 1923.
Madame Désarnaud was the owner.
By combining cut crystal and gilded bronze in an original and spectacular way, she quickly gained widespread renown.
During the First Empire, she had a surprising and enchanting staircase built, the very name of which was enough to pique the public’s curiosity.
Émile Pannier took over the business. His two sons, Georges and Henry, who had received a thorough education, became trendsetters, maintaining the high quality of the decorations whilst also responding to modern styles.
