This magnificent clock set is the work of Henry Dasson, a leading French maître bronzier and cabinetmaker who was active in Paris during the second half of the 19th century. Dasson achieved great renown for his refined creations in gilded bronze, which combine exceptional craftsmanship with a distinct sense of sculptural design.
What set Dasson apart from many of his contemporaries was his background as a sculptor and maker of bronze sculptures. This artistic training is clearly evident in the exceptional quality and detailing of the bronze fittings with which his furniture and timepieces were embellished.
This clock set is a particularly fine example of his oeuvre, in which sculptural refinement, rich ornamentation and technical mastery are harmoniously united.
The authenticity of the work is confirmed by the signature on the dial and the ‘HD’ mark stamped into the bronze, referring to Henry Dasson.
