An elegant Régence-period console table in finely carved and gilded wood, featuring a serpentine, bombé, and openwork front. The rich ornamentation, executed with great finesse, blends harmoniously.
At its center, it displays an openwork cartouche featuring a rosette motif, framed by scrolling foliage, flowers, and acanthus leaves. The apron is adorned with a finely chased frieze and vegetal motifs that accentuate the movement of the front.
The two console legs, powerfully curved, are carved with large scrolls and deeply veined acanthus leaves. They are joined at the lower section by an elegant stretcher centered with a prominent carved acanthus leaf.
The piece is topped with a magnificent original *Rouge Royal* marble slab, featuring a serpentine front edge and a *bec de corbin* (bird's beak) molding.
This console perfectly exemplifies the characteristics of the Régence period, a time when lines became more fluid, fronts took on bombé shapes, and ornamentation—largely inspired by the natural world—gained a sense of movement while maintaining a balanced structure.
Régence-period craftsmanship, retaining its beautiful original gilding.
Restoration consistent with age and maintenance.
