This Shiwan stoneware jar was wheel-thrown. The body is very thick and covered with a thick blue glaze with violet undertones. Its compact, sturdy, and robust form is closer to the heavy Ming style than to the more slender forms of Qing ceramics. We would cautiously date it to the beginning of the Qing dynasty, but it is likely from an earlier period. This type of stoneware is described in specialized museums as "Shiwan 17th-19th century." It is in good condition, with no repairs. There are numerous scratches from use. It measures 30 x 27 cm. Some firing flaws confirm its age. In recent years, forgeries have flooded the market; however, for now, they are of poor quality and easily detectable.
