An impressive and refined pair of Empire period candelabra in finely chased bronze, combining deep brown patinated bronze with richly mercury-gilt bronze elements.
Each candelabrum stands on a square base decorated with palmettes and stylised foliage, surmounted by a cylindrical pedestal engraved with delicate friezes. A finely engine-turned gilt sphere supports a classically draped female figure in patinated bronze, depicted in graceful movement, holding above her head a central medallion tied with ribbons.
From this medallion emerge three scrolling arms adorned with stylised foliage and floral motifs, each terminating in a sculpted jester’s head supporting gilt bronze nozzles and drip pans decorated with water leaves and floral ornament. The refined contrast between dark patina and luminous gilding is characteristic of the Empire aesthetic.
One arm has been restored.
