Rare Nuremberg wrought-iron casket, dating from the early 17th century. Rectangular in form, it is constructed from riveted iron plates and fitted with a slightly domed lid, topped with a lifting ring. The sides retain their original drop-ring handles, and the base is enriched with an openwork pierced skirt with scrolling cut-outs.
The side panels are decorated with painted motifs, including polychrome heraldic coats of arms on a dark ground, typical of early Nuremberg workmanship. The interior displays an elaborate locking mechanism with layered plates and moving components, characteristic of German security boxes of the period.
