Mug in birch burr - Scandinavia End of the 17th century

This amazing mug is made of birch burr, which is a woody growth of a tree highly appreciated by cabinetmakers for its richness and rarity. This piece was made in Scandinavia at the end of the 17th century. A popular object, elegantly rustic, whose refined Nordic aesthetic is quite remarkable through this sober decoration. The four feet of the mug represent elongated lions, while the handle is also surmounted by a lion figure. The lid is decorated with small metal nails decorated with flowers and its centre has a carved image of a lion.
