Psyche is a refined patinated bronze sculpture by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887), cast by the Oudin foundry in Marseille, renowned for the quality of its 19th-century bronze production. This model is well-known at Sotheby's, where comparable examples have been catalogued and offered for sale, confirming its established place in the international art market. The figure depicts Psyche in a moment of silent contemplation, delicately holding a small vessel, her pose expressing grace, sensitivity, and restrained emotion. The composition is distinguished by a harmoniously balanced contrapposto, subtle anatomical modeling, and flowing drapery that naturally follows the contours of the body—all characteristic elements of Carrier-Belleuse's accomplished sculptural language.
