The Source is a refined bronze sculpture with a brown patina by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887), one of the leading figures of 19th-century French academic sculpture. The work depicts a classically inspired female figure embodying the allegory of the spring, rendered with grace and a sense of movement that is both restrained and expressive. The figure adopts a harmonious contrapposto, with finely sculpted anatomical modeling and abundant drapery that flows naturally around the body. These elements, characteristic of Carrier-Belleuse's accomplished style, lend the composition elegance and sculptural vitality. The subtly nuanced brown patina enhances the depth of the modeling and allows for a delicate interplay of light on the surface. The sculpture is signed "Carrier," attesting to its authenticity. The Source thus stands as a beautiful and distinguished example of French academic sculpture from the second half of the 19th century. Dimensions: H 94 × 36 × 30 cm.
