A Late 19th Century Monumental Hermes, Inspired By Giambologna

Dimensions: Height 210 cm, Width 100 cmThis monumental bronze sculpture depicts Hermes, the Greek god of commerce, communication, and travel, known as Mercury in Roman mythology. The figure is captured in a dynamic and elegant pose, gracefully balancing on one foot, resting on the head of Zephyr, the god of the west wind. The model is based on the legendary creation by Giambologna (1529–1608), one of the most illustrious sculptors of the late Renaissance. First executed around 1564 in Florence, the original work was revolutionary in its sense of movement and lightness, a technical and artistic feat for the time. Original copies of this iconic sculpture are now housed in several prestigious museums, including: Museo Nazionale del Bargello (Florence, Italy) Musée du Louvre (Paris, France) Vatican Museums (Vatican City, Rome)This version This monumental sculpture, created in the late 19th century, faithfully reflects Giambologna's vision and demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship, evident in every detail, from the delicately sculpted facial features to the winged helmet and caduceus, the iconic attribute of Hermes. The rich patina of the bronze adds depth and character, giving the work a timeless and classic allure. With its impressive dimensions – 210 cm in height and 100 cm in width – this sculpture is not only a masterpiece, but also a spectacular decorative element, ideal for a majestic hall, gallery or luxurious interior.
