Patinated bronze sculpture by the French artist Félix Maurice Charpentier (1858–1924), depicting “The Improviser”. The figure represents a young man playing a transverse flute fashioned from a simple branch, captured in a moment of natural grace and artistic spontaneity.
The work is finely modelled, with particular attention to anatomical detail and a balanced, expressive posture characteristic of late 19th-century French academic sculpture. Executed in a warm brown patina, this piece reflects Charpentier’s interest in lyrical realism and allegorical themes.
The bronze is signed “Félix Charpentier” and dated 1887, and bears the foundry mark of the prestigious Société des Bronzes de Paris, confirming its high-quality French casting.
A decorative and well-composed bronze, representative of French sculpture from the end of the 19th century.
