Pair Of Important Candelabras Mounted On XIXth Vases

These candelabra in the spirit of 18th century mounted objects are made up of large Satsuma vases placed on a bronze base and bearing a naturalistic bouquet of sconces. The base has four feet and a decoration of flowers. The 14 sconces are interspersed with flowers giving an impression of natural jumble like flowers that have actually grown in the vase.
The use of brass with bronze gives a vegetal flexibility, the leaves for example being as thin as real leaves.
The Meiji period vases are masterpieces of exceptional quality, characterized by a legible and lively decoration .
The ideograms indicate Yokohama (export port) and Baitei (or Meisan) who is painter of this work.
There are Satsuma vases of similar workmanship in the Tokyo Museum.
On the other hand, the Sèvres museum has a cup with a motif similar to geese in flight, typical work of the mid-19th century.
This very airy subject is treated like a drawing, the flight of geese reversed on each vase, the ground being symbolized by flowers and foliage.
The background ivory is under a brilliant transparent cover with cracks, Japanese and uropean peoples loved that, the clouds or mists behind the birds are a scattering of golden droplets of growing size giving depth. The geese are painted and the flowers in slight relief. The collar and the base are covered with rings of symbolic patterns with dense patterns, creating a sort of frame for the scene of the flight of birds.
During cleaning a label was found, indeed these candelabra are typically luxury items that were sold in Parisian department stores in their early days in the second half of the 19th century.
