Pair of bronze and marble candelabra circa 1820

Chiseled bronze with ground gold and brown patina, white marble.

These unusual and large candelabra are designed based on the principle of medieval trophies of arms, themselves inspired by those of Antiquity.
They can be attributed without hesitation to J.F. Théodore Gechter, whose work (design and quality) is unique in the Medievalist style.

Jean François Théodore Gechter (1795-1844).
The shaft is made of white marble with a trefoil cross-section and bears a trophy of a shield, lances, a bow, a halberd, etc. Five light arms in the form of branches and foliage support the urn-shaped candle holders.
The central candle holders of each light have retained their plumed helmet finials. The pieces are of high quality with very fine details.

Condition: Excellent original condition, beautiful ground gold, no missing pieces or damage, tiny chips invisible when in situ at the base of the marble column.

Dimensions: Height: 69 cm, Base: 17 x 17 x 17 cm, Arm diameter: 25 cm.
