Charles Bouchez, born in 1811, exhibited at the Paris Salon for nearly ten years between 1837 and 1846. However, we do not know virtually nothing about the life and training of the artist. Of a regular production and of good quality, Bouchez was and still is regularly present on the art market with paintings with marine themes of which our Return from fishing in Étretat is a most representative example. The artist is to be placed in the same artistic current as his elder by a few years Eugène Modeste Edmond Le Poittevin (1806-1870), the themes approached and the invoices being very similar.
