Very nice oil painting by the Belgian artist Frans Schaefels (1827 - 1904) representing an old man sitting examining silverware.

Size: 17,5 x 13 cm - Gilt frame with mouldings - Signed.

Hendrik Frans Schaefels or Henri François Schaefels, also known as Rik Schaefels, born on 2 December 1827 in Antwerp and died on 9 June 1904 in the same city, was a Belgian Romantic painter, draughtsman and engraver known for his seascapes, vedutes, genre paintings, landscapes with figures and history paintings. He worked in the romantic style popular in Belgium in the mid-nineteenth century and was highly regarded in Europe for his depictions of historical naval battles.
