Hermann SEEGER: 1857–1945

Born into a modest family, Hermann Seeger was the son of a master tailor.
During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871, a French officer staying with his family noticed his talent for drawing and gave him a box of paints—a decisive encouragement for the young boy.

After earning his high school diploma in 1875, he began studying philology at the universities of Leipzig and Halle, where he earned a doctorate in Old French.

He then worked as a teacher for a few years, but that career did not fulfill his deepest aspirations.
Drawn to painting, he decided to devote himself entirely to art and enrolled at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Otto Brausewetter and Paul Thurmann before continuing his training in the studio of the painter Karl GussoW

Based in Berlin, Seeger pursued a parallel career as a painter, draftsman, and professor. S
His reputation led to his appointment as a professor in 1912 and subsequently to holding key positions at the Berlin Academy for several decades.

Hermann Seeger is best known today for his scenes of young girls and children in the coastal landscapes of the Baltic Sea.
