Excerpt from the journal "La Sologne et son passé" (Sologne and its Past), No. 77 :
"The last person featured in this issue, Joseph Chiffonny, was discovered by Eric Millet during his historical research, a passion of his." The analysis of the census records of Villeny drew the author's attention to an unusual profession in a Sologne village at the beginning of the 20th century: painter. This artist's career path is remarkable, moving from the stage to painting. Having lived for several years in Sologne, first in Villeny, then in Lanthenay, he drew upon its charming inspiration. Some of his canvases from this period are well-known, while others remain in private collections and will appear at auctions in France and abroad.
