Floral still life depicting a bouquet of roses painted by Henri Schouten under the pseudonym “Jos Klaas,” also known as Joseph Klaas.
Joseph Klass, whose real name was Henry Schouten, was a 19th-century Belgian painter, born and died in Belgium in 1857 and 1927.
Known as an animal painter for his realistic depictions of animals, country life, and rural landscapes, he also produced numerous floral still lifes, fruit compositions, and hunting scenes.
Signed "Jos Klaas" in the lower right corner of the painting.
