Saint Peter, Possibly Malines circa 1500

Beautiful sculpture probably representing Saint Peter, holding a book with his left hand. The folds are finely rendered, as well as the facial features such as the eyes, eyebrows or hairs, delicately painted. This piece stands out for its great condition, the original polychrome and gilding decoration remaining almost entirely preserved, something quite unusual for sculptures of this period. Although non marked, this piece is probably from Malines, where masculine personnage were infinitely rarer than female figures.

Condition: Very good. Conserves original painting and gilding, fingers lacking in the right hand, a small damage at the back of the head. Small repainting on the right cheek.
