Portrait of a young aristocrat in armor - French School of the 17th century

Oil on canvas
In its period frame with "à la Berain" motif in carved and gilded wood.

Total dimensions: 92 x 80 cm. The frame: 72 x 60 cm

Rare portrait of a young aristocrat dressed in a grey velvet jacket with blue velvet lined sleeves. He wears a breastplate with gold rivets under a pink cloth cape and at his waist a floral belt.
He is coiffed in the French fashion, his long hairstyle in the royal style known as "leonine" will be very fashionable under Louis XIV, from 1680 and until the 1715s. He wears a white frill around his neck.

The rarity of this portrait is due to the beauty and youthfulness of the character (very uncommon in the portraits of that time).

Our research was directed towards a painter from the south-east of France with a certain Italian influence.

Beautiful state of conservation.
