Round plate in porcelain of China with decoration said of the Company of the Indies painted in grisaille of a scene representing " The geese of the brother Philippe " tale of La Fontaine inspired by a short story of Bocaccio: a monk tries to withdraw from the sight of a young man two charming young women of which one holds a parasol. Border decorated with four reserves with landscapes and birds.
Qianlong period 1736-1795, mid 18th century.
Slight crack at 10 o'clock on the wing and small resumption of the gold fillet of the grisaille in the lower right corner.
The scene is from an engraving by Nicolas de Larmessin II (1684-1755) after a painting by Nicolas Lancret.
