Bust of a Young Girl - Sèvres Porcelain after Léonard Agathon (1841-1923)

Published by the Sèvres manufactory and dated 1904, this biscuit porcelain statuette reproduces the original marble model by sculptor Léonard Agathon, exhibited at the 1901 Salon under the title “Adolescence” and acquired by the State (currently kept at the Musée d’Orsay). This elegant tribute to youth captivates completely with its posture, the softness, and the purity of the face. In very good condition, with an almost imperceptible firing hair (original, in the drapery) and a tiny chip on the back right corner. Signed A. Léonard on the shoulder, with the Sèvres mark and the modeler's monogram.
Léonard Van Weydeveld (known as Agathon) was born in Lille in 1841. After training at the Academy in his hometown, he joined the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His works were exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français starting in 1868, and he continued to participate until 1914. In 1899, Léonard Agathon became a member of the jury for this Salon under Rodin's presidency. A top-notch sculptor representative of his era (Art Nouveau), he handled major private and public commissions. He received many awards, including a gold medal at the 1900 World’s Fair.
