This biscuit porcelain bust depicts the Dauphin Louis XVII (1785–1795) and was crafted in the second half of the 19th century by a Parisian manufacture in the Sèvres style. The design is based on a model by the sculptor Augustin Pajou (1730–1809). Sculpted in unglazed hard-paste porcelain, it portrays the young prince turned to the left with wavy hair, a pleated jabot, and the sash and star of the Order of the Holy Spirit (Ordre du Saint-Esprit). The bust rests on a porcelain pedestal (piédouche) in Sèvres blue decorated with gilt accents over a square plinth. On the reverse, there is an incised "Pajou" signature in the biscuit, a Sèvres monogram with double-L mark and date letters, as well as a workshop monogram "M".
