French Napoleon III period center table (table de milieu) circa 1860, displaying design characteristics of the Louis XV style. The carved and gilded wooden frame rests on four cabriole legs, starting with leaf capitals and terminating in scrolled feet (sabots en enroulement). The openwork apron (ceinture ajourée) features a trellis pattern centered with rocaille cartouches and laurel decoration. In the lower third, a curved X-stretcher (entretoise en X) with a central rocaille finial connects the legs. The octagonal contoured top is made of black scagliola with polychrome inlay work. The central motif depicts a still life with a pomegranate and floral arrangements, complemented by floral corner motifs with sprigs of carnations, roses, hyacinths, and auriculas. The gilding shows later regilding; the piece exhibits age-appropriate patina and wear along the edges as well as on the scagliola surface.
