This exceptional Empire period "lit en bateau" (boat bed), crafted around 1810, is attributed to the workshop of the renowned Parisian cabinetmaker Pierre-Benoît Marcion. Made from solid and veneered cherry wood, the frame follows a strict architectural symmetry with characteristic elegant, outward-sweeping volutes. The structure is magnificently accented by finely chased and fire-gilt bronze mounts, whose iconography deeply reflects the "Retour d'Égypte" style. The lower volutes are adorned with frontally applied sphinxes, flanked by classical palmettes and star-shaped motifs. The central rail features a striking mascaron in the shape of an antique female bust. A 19th-century paper label attached to the wood documents an early inventory. The piece shows a beautiful, deep age-appropriate patina and minor signs of use, while the exceptional original mercury gilding of the bronzes remains perfectly intact.
