Stamped Parisian commode in the Louis XV style from the period between 1750 and 1755 by the ébéniste Pierre Roussel, who attained his master's degree in 1745. The oak carcass rests on splayed legs with a triangular cross-section and is divided at the front into two adjacent short drawers in the upper row and a continuous long drawer in the lower section. The fluted edge design is accentuated by a contrasting papillon veneer pattern framed by ribbon-shaped marquetry. Cast and chased gilt bronze mounts with asymmetrical rocaille motifs, foliage, and floral elements embellish the piece of furniture. It is topped by a shaped and profiled slab of red Belgian marble. The work bears the stamp "P.ROUSSEL" on the left front stile.
