Pair of Early 19th Century Empire Gilt Bronze Candlesticks with Caryatids

A fine pair of Empire gilt bronze candlesticks, circa 1820. The top is decorated with gadrooning and a Greek key frieze, featuring a removable wax pan with a beaded rim. The upper shaft is formed by three caryatids with floral garlands in their hair, transitioning into a finely chiseled shaft with latticework decoration, supported by three bare feet. The circular base is bordered by a fine beaded relief. The design is based on a model by Claude Galle (1758–1815) delivered to the Château de Fontainebleau in 1804.
