An elegant and imposing bronze sculpture by Hippolyte Moreau (1832–1927) depicting a young woman in an allegorical composition full of grace and poetry. The young woman stands in an elegant pose, her hips slightly turned outward. Her dress, with its delicately draped folds, naturally hugs her silhouette, while her downcast gaze and crossed arms lend the entire composition a gentle, serene, and refined expression. At her side is a lavish cornucopia adorned with flowers and fruit, while at her feet two birds are perched amid lush vegetation. The composition thus evokes the themes of nature, abundance, and fertility, which were central to late 19th-century allegorical sculpture. The quality of the modeling is evident in numerous details: the finely crafted hairstyle, the delicacy of the face, the folds of the garment, the plumage of the birds, as well as the flowers and foliage that make up the base. The sculpture bears the clearly incised signature “H. Moreau” and is associated with the 1889 Exposition des Beaux-Arts, an inscription that refers to the artistic context in which the model was presented or exhibited. The bronze features a beautiful warm brown patina, which harmoniously highlights the modeling and the richness of the details. The sculpture rests on a rotating base, allowing it to be admired from every angle. An important and highly decorative work of late 19th-century French sculpture, created by one of the most renowned members of the famous Moreau family. Artist: Hippolyte François Moreau (1832–1927)
