A magnificent pair of two-light wall sconces in finely chased and gilt bronze, bearing the "C-couronné" (crowned C) hallmark.
They feature scrolling forms and curves of delicate leaves and branches that intertwine gracefully, accented by small bead details.
Their elongated shape extends into two curved light arms, topped by leaf-patterned drip pans and ending in candle sockets shaped like a flower bud just beginning to open. These elegant motifs are distinguished by exceptionally fine and meticulous chasing.
Beneath the candle sockets, the "C-couronné" hallmark is visible; this mark refers to a tax on metals levied between 1745 and 1748. At that time, the mark was required on all bronze objects produced during this period. This hallmark allows for precise dating of the sconces, identifying them as Louis XV period pieces.
French gilt-bronze work from the Louis XV period, bearing the "C-couronné" hallmark and retaining its beautiful original gilding.
