Pair of lions – Émile Gallé (1846–1904)

Pair of glazed ceramic lions with blue decoration on a white ground. The glossy glaze emphasizes the finesse of the modeling, while the blue highlights enhance the sculptural details: mane, musculature, contours of the paws, and ornamental motifs. The ensemble presents work that is both decorative and sculptural.

Émile Gallé (1846–1904), an emblematic figure of Art Nouveau and a founding member of the École de Nancy, is mainly recognized for his glassware, marquetry furniture, and creations inspired by the natural world.

Both sculptures bear his signature on the base.
