A Chinese famille verte ‘fishermen’ bowl.
Kangxi period (1662-1722).
Bowl on high footrim with steep sides. Decorated with famille verte enamels with four cartouche panels on a ground of ‘frog-spawn’, flowerheads, leafs and butterflies. In the panels a figure in a boat, a fisherman with a net and fishing rod, in the other two panels some of the ‘hundred antiquities’. The inner and outside rim decorated with geometric motifs alternated by floral cartouches, the interior centre with a large lotus flower surrounded by six lingzhi fungi. Marked on the base with a factory or shop mark in a double circle in underglaze blue.
Height 9 cm, diameter 19.5 cm.
Condition:
Good condition with normal age-related signs of use: the top rim has no glaze so it appears to be slightly sanded, slight wear to enamels, minute nibbles to upper rim, minor scratching and wear to glaze. No additional damage found under UV light. No signs of repairs. No cracks or chips.
