A mid-sized cylinder secrétaire from the Louis XVI period

Crafted in rosewood veneer on an oak frame, it is distinguished by a refined symmetrical marquetry design, fine gilt-bronze mounts, and a marquetry back decorated with butterfly-wing motifs.
The roll-top, composed of wide slats (which gives this piece its unique character), opens to reveal an interior fitted with four drawers and a writing surface covered in red morocco leather, bordered with a gilt Greek-key frieze.
The upper top is surrounded by an openwork gilt-bronze gallery.
The frieze section opens with three drawers on the front, adorned with finely chased gilt-bronze escutcheons. Each corner of the frieze is decorated with gilt-bronze drapery mounts as well.
This secrétaire stands on four tapered legs ending in gilt-bronze sabots.
