Empire gilt bronze centerpiece, early 19th century, attributed to Philippe Thomire (1751–1843).
An important and finely chased gilt bronze centerpiece, resting on a circular base richly decorated with friezes of scrolling foliage and classical motifs. The base supports three classically draped female figures in the round, elegantly arranged and holding aloft an openwork coupe with refined neoclassical ornamentation.
The quality of the chasing, the clarity of the design, and the harmonious proportions reflect a workshop of the highest standard, characteristic of early 19th-century Parisian production and closely related to the circle of Philippe Thomire.
The piece retains its original gilding, displaying remarkable brightness and freshness. A highly decorative and sculptural work, representative of the refined aesthetic of the Empire period.
