Engraved artist’s plaque reproducing the date 1685.
Charming riverside landscape, bordered by gentle green hills and scattered rural houses with red-tiled roofs. The viewer’s perspective is slightly elevated above a rise in the foreground, introduced on the left by a repoussoir tree. In the foreground, a standing and a recumbent horse, around which three merchants handle a tied package. Further down the slope, two figures walk toward the houses at the foot of the hill.
Siberechts left Antwerp in 1672 and settled permanently in London, where he painted country houses for aristocratic patrons and idyllic landscapes inspired by the southern English countryside.
