An 18th-century Italian mirror in carved and gilded wood, with exuberant Baroque decoration.
The richness of its entirely openwork composition testifies to exceptional craftsmanship. The scrolls, branches, and figures all seem animated by a movement of joy and love.
At the top center of the mirror is a seated female figure, draped in classical style. In her right arm, she holds two putti embracing languorously.
Eight other putti complete this allegory of love, gracefully adorning the mirror's frame. Two, extending their fingers, embrace in the lower center.
All sides of the frame are decorated with a profusion of acanthus leaves and scrolls.
The generous and luminous gilding enhances the depth of the carving and reveals the exquisite precision of the work.
A sumptuous mirror, a testament to the Italian taste for theatricality and movement, likely of Genoese origin. Original mercury mirror and original gilding.
