An antique 17th-century object, an amulet or talismanic pendant mounted in silver, set with a natural stone composed of red and white banded agate extending into a translucent rock crystal point. The stone displays a natural layered structure, typical of banded chalcedony, with a transition to a clear quartz forming a point, likely intentionally preserved for its symbolic and protective qualities. The antique silver mount conforms to the shape of the stone and features a silver bail. This type of amulet was worn in the 17th century as a protective object or talisman, the combination of agate and rock crystal being renowned for their apotropaic virtues. A beautiful object for a curiosity, collector, or cabinet of curiosities.
