Offered by Franck Baptiste Provence
An extremely rare black lacquered toilet box.
Rectangular in shape, it features slightly concave sides and a domed lid.
The lid boasts a beautiful, high-relief decoration in gold and copper powder with red lacquer highlights and mother-of-pearl inlays.
It depicts a tray with an aventurine lacquer background upon which rest three vases of different shapes, from which emerge bouquets of flowers.
The sides are decorated with vases of flowers.
The interior is finished in vermilion lacquer.
The keyhole escutcheon and hinges are finely chased, engraved, and gilded.
In very good condition, with only minor retouching of the decoration.
Parisian work from the early reign of Louis XV, circa 1720-1730.
Dimensions:
Height: 10 cm; Width: 29 cm; Depth: 21 cm
The exquisite detail of the decoration, the mastery of the aventurine background, the red lacquer, and the inclusion of mother-of-pearl in various colors suggest a production by the Martin brothers.
