Offered by Art Revival
The son of a goldsmith, Philippe Wolfers first trained in sculpture under Isidore de Rudder at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He then took over the family business, assisted by his brothers Max and Robert, and commissioned Victor Horta to design the famous Wolfers Frères stores in Brussels.
Philippe Wolfers' genius was first expressed in the art of jewelry, which earned him international renown, but also in the art of medal making and sculpture.
His inventiveness is evident in this vase, “Les Pavots” (The Poppies), an emblematic work of Art Nouveau vocabulary, revealing the concern for aesthetics and harmony between art and nature that was characteristic of the period.
